An attack on the Slovene minority in Italy (04.05.2007)
In February an arson attack destroyed a creche for Slovene children in Trieste, Italy where a substantial Slovene minority lives. The perpetrators of the attack remain unidentified. Five MEP's from Italy, Austria, Hungary and Slovenia believe this was a premeditated attack targeted at the Slovene minority.
Problem of the 18 305 individuals who were unlawfully removed ('erased') from the Slovenia's registry of permanent residents in 1992 (30.11.2006)
A delegation of the "erased" (from the country's registry of permanent residents) visited the European parliament on 29 November 2006. It was not, however, the first time that this issue of non-compliance with the rules of law has been brought to the attention of the European institutions.
Conservation and management of brown bear population in Slovenia (29.01.2006)
The presence of bears in Slovenia – yesterday, today and tomorrow – is a Slovenian, and at the same time, a European success story. From an ecological point of view, the long-term subsistence of the species is not an issue; the key issue is the construction of the so-called "political habitat" that will assure the conservation of the largest European carnivore and through this high biological diversity in this part of Europe for generations to come. We are convinced that this is desired by the general public in Slovenia and Europe, and in particular by those that are especially concerned by the destiny of rare bear populations on the European territory.
